New Director of Developer Relations
In a distinctly exciting development for EOS, long-time esteemed community member Nathan James has joined the ENF as Director of Developer Relations. Nathan is a highly respected builder, full-stack developer with EOSIO-based Ultra, and originator of Scatter, the first wallet to run on EOS.
Nathan announced his new role in a cinematic video with a deeply inspiring and passionate speech about empowering EOS developers. Nathan’s leadership and commitment to fostering ecosystem growth is immediately apparent in this movie trailer-like experience as he explains why he’s excited to help creators in his new role and highlights upcoming work from the Developer Relations team. Imagine an immersive, interactive way for developers to enter the ecosystem, a suite of courses for developers at every skill level, front-end and smart contract walkthroughs, example wallet integrations, fortified with easy to access API references, development frameworks, a mentorship program, and the right incentives. This is the vision of the ENF’s new Director of Developer Relations, Nathan James.
In an accompanying blog post, you can learn more exciting details about how Nathan is reimagining the developer experience on EOS to attract, train, and retain top developer talent within the ecosystem. The post first lays out the current state of developer resources on EOS. The third chapter of the Core+ Blue Paper, the “EOSIO Infosphere Evolution,” shows some current deficiencies of the developer experience on EOS and proposals for improvements. Previously, EOS was lacking important developer resources and a coherent strategy for discovering talented developers, fueling their curiosity, onboarding them into the ecosystem, and providing the tools & incentives to enable creators to reach their full potential. With Nathan James and the Developer Relations team, this is all about to change and EOS developers will be far more empowered than ever.
Nathan is planning to form a team and build decentralized developer hub where ecosystem participants are incentivized to mentor others, create tutorials, port applications, and discover world-class educators in EOS. The developer hub will be a collaborative space for EOS developers to hone their skills, make connections, unlock new opportunities as they learn, and work together to co-create public good development materials. This developer hub can vastly improve the developer experience and foster exponential growth of development on both the native EOS VM and the highly anticipated EOS EVM. The possibilities are especially enthralling when you consider how the developer hub will synergize with other innovative systems in EOS, including Eden, Pomelo, ENF Grants, ENF Ventures, ƒractally, RFPs, and so many other helpful mechanisms & projects for fostering growth in EOS.
However, as Nathan says, “Talk is cheap, let’s get to work.” Nathan is already reaching out to developers and working in public to empower value creators with EOS. An EOS Hackathon is also in the works, but first Nathan is focused on building better documentation, tooling, frameworks for building contracts, tools for resource management, and generally creating an amazing developer experience that will make developers ecstatic to build more with EOS. Nathan is joining an all-star roster of leading developers on the growing team at the ENF, and he has all of the qualities needed to foster tremendous growth as Director of Developer Relations. We are thrilled to have Nathan James on the team and confident in his ability to bring developer relations into a whole new era on EOS.
“I’ve seen that it is creators who have the most impact on the health of a network. It is the programmers, the designers, the content creators, the idea brewers. It is the applications that they create, the emotional stories that they share, the excitement that they circulate, and the creativity that they capture, which reaches the furthest. Anyone can be a creator, but it takes incentives to not only fuel the passion to start the journey, but more importantly, to keep it going.”
– Nathan James

Defibox Launches Balance
Defibox officially launched Balance, a new stablecoin swap protocol on EOS that offers stablecoin trading functionality with low fees, low slippage, low impermanent loss, and high yield staking opportunities. Balance bolsters the entire EOS DeFi ecosystem with curve-like mechanics amplified by performance that is only possible on EOS to enable limitless creative financial compositions and help everyone grow wealth.
Balance has been jointly developed by Defibox & EOS Nation and the code is open source & audited by several companies. Defibox has been one of the most popular DeFi apps on EOS for two years with their AMM exchange, lending products, and USN collateralized stablecoin. The new Balance swap synergizes with these products and countless other EOS DeFi apps to help foster ever deeper liquidity & utility on EOS. Balance is now live on the EOS mainnet and offering real time APY of nearly 30% for stakers in the USN + USDT liquidity pool. Defibox representative Cindy recently also shared details about a strategy to earn approximately 300% compound APY with the new Balance protocol.
High yield opportunities from Balance and many other apps on EOS will be greatly enhanced with the proposals & forthcoming deliverables in the recently released Yield+ Blue Paper. Yield+ is a community initiative designed to increase opportunities for dApp developers to be rewarded and users to grow wealth on EOS. The Yield+ working group designed & proposed an elegant system of economic incentives to attract liquidity with an on-chain Liquidity Rewards Program that directly measures and rewards increased economic activity on EOS, based on TVL (Total Volume Locked). In addition to the thoroughly researched Yield+ Blue Paper, you can also learn much more about the Yield+ initiative from last week’s Everything EOS Weekly Report, videos from co-author Denis Carriere on the Everything EOS clips playlist, and the preceding Yield+ preview.
In a helpful development that is completely unique to EOS, the Yield+ initiative is also complimented by the Recover+ initiative. In the May 9th Everything EOS Weekly Report, we shared details about the first version of EOSRecover.com, a cyber security portal that we funded to help prevent and quickly recover from exploits on EOS. The Recover+ team is creating a crisis management framework for EOS with emergency smart contracts, protocols, best practices guides for support immediately after exploits, and comprehensive resources to prevent hacks. All apps participating in the Yield+ Liquidity Rewards Program must also participate Recover+ to help make more secure & high yielding DeFi for everyone with EOS. A light Blue Paper is coming soon from the Recover+ team with many more details and you can learn more about our work with Recover+ in the ENF Q1 2022 Quarterly Report.
The combination of the Yield+, Recover+, unparalleled performance, and a wide variety of helpful & composable DeFi applications like Balance are positioning EOS to become the industry leading blockchain for democratizing finance & fostering abundance for all of humanity.
